Bread celebration
in two parts
From Brussels to Portugal by Köln
2019

Bread Celebration - December 12, 2018, performance 20’, bread dought, oven, synthesizer / Hear (Strasbourg, France)

ln Portugal, Shiralee and John lives in the middle of the mountain which burned 2 years ago every evening we shared the meal with Shiralee and John
Shiralee and John use permaculture that works by planting side by side plants that help the other to grow = linked vegetal system evolving in symbiosis
Their ducks eat the worms
And the australian flowers grow shade from the lemon tree that have survived to the tire
ln the mountain, around,the place is quiet
New eucalyptus forests grow back from the ash if their roots
Shiralee and John arrived 5 years ago from Australia
They have experimented their first wildfire 4 years ago
There is no more people here, all the houses of the closest village have burned
While arriving they've got just enough money to buy their house and refurbished it
But when it's time to go to the supermarket John says that money stays problematic to fill
his car with glass and fix this putain d'ordinateur that just broke
Everything they eat come from their garden/potager


At the evening we were all very glad to eat together
During dinner John filled our glasses with Porto
To better introduce me Léo said that I made my bread
That's my favorite starter-talk
Shiralee recommend us an anarchist bakery in Lisbon
And told us that the anarchist bakery was less and less anarchist
My bread-doing* comes from sculpture
My bread-doing takes it origin to the sculpture
from the artist Aline Bouvy with whom l have worked in Brussels
I have prepared the dough and the bread in her kitchen as plaster and the moulds in her studio
I have cooked the bread as I have learned to cooked the grey
For a show we've prepared 500 little breads to set up them around 2 sculptures


I am not following recipe while doing bread
My bread-doing is not following a recipe bread-doing, as an artistic work
I search my own
My bread fabrication starts from the test of dough, bread and cooking
How I am doing/working with bread evolved thanks to people l've met, around me and with whom I am sharing
lt becomes bigger, it grows during dinners
Flour and water can create their one starter by leaving them one day before to make the dough more elastic


à table moi je grandis, je dois digérer, il faut me laisser reposer
My few advices (indication) don't come from my mother, baker's daughter in Nevers
At a time where fast distribution of ready-to-cook powder -to mix with 30% water at 60% of the machin's power for 1 h of cooking
at 200°- permitted to make more bread, that grows, left, cooked and sold faster
My grandmother sold the bread, her name is Renée, my grandfather did the bread, he was called René
my mother and her brother told me that they ate every night with all the apprentices from the bakery, they all slept above the bakery at night
in sort of they were all living together
my mother's brother left the family bakery to start studying at Bourges Fine Arts School


My grandfather, him, had to produce a lot
I know from experience that it takes 16 grams of salt per kilo of flour


Now, my uncle sells kitchens in Grenoble
ln school l am surrounded to evolve, to practice, to discuss, if I replace my bread-doing by school
if I bring my bread-doing into the school
if I do bread in school

my mom asks me what l'm doing at school

l'm getting informed about art through art, I meet, discuss and exchange information
I shape and digest them
these contributions develop my work
Would I still be doing what l'm doing at school without being there? About bread yes
I am not doing bread at home to feed myself, I do it for others and here at school, in the same way that I could do in the sculpture workshop
ln her kitchen Shiralee gives her recipes while preparing or serving dinner
She used to make pan-fried cornbread
She recounts her recipes with her strong New Zealand accent, giving the ingredients all at the same time, very quickly
mixing with anecdotes about peoples she meet and technical detail that she learned while traveling
She experiments a lot in her kitchen with elements from her garden

I repeat the different steps of bread preparation into my creative process, there are different gestures and different times too the stages of the recipe become the cooking of my melody

I add notes like salt, then yeast
I leave the tone in a loop when the flour and water make their proper yeast at the end the baking cornes with a deeper, slower and warmer rhythm and tone
The bread is baked when the melody is over
The melody stops when the bread is baked

l’été dernier je travaillais à la Banque de France, job d’été bien payé
« bonjour bienvenue à la banque de France » aider les gens à remplir des dossiers de surendettement,
48 000 € de découvert, crédit à la consommation
« tu travailles à la banque de France mais tu fais ?
une école d’art ? ah
tu sais zoé, moi je pense que...................la sécurité financière c’est très important »

comme t’es en extérieur et qu’y a pas trop de lumière quand t’arrives ton esprit s’image la chose du terrain
et quand il commence à faire jours tu te rends compte que t’es pas du tout là où tu pensais
on avait garé la voiture n’importe où genre dans le bois ‘fin on avait juste écouté la musique pour savoir où c’était et on retrouvait pas la voiture j’avais trop peur qu’on nous l’ai volée c’était horrible
point 2, je le rejoue à l’école
une grande tente en bache noire qui se replie dans 1 sac ikea à la fin de la fête
à l’intérieur, la fête = des vidéos de mes premières fêtes, de ces ami.e.s
il faut se baisser pour passer la tête
mes professeurs entendent la sirène = le son d’une fête au loin
c’est mon 3ème bilan à l’école, appréciation « bilan d’une grande générosité et de mobilisation »
je veux partager
ces lieux où j’ai découvert la musique sur les murs d’enceintes qui vibrent, mes amis qui dansent, marchent, zonent aux alentours
les deuxième espace est chez mes parents à Nevers

j’apprends beaucoup en faisant des allers-retours entre l’école et ma maison
est ce que je fais une performance si je lis mon texte à mes parents dans ma chambre ?
je faisais des spectacles devant mes parents quand j’étais petite
est ce que c’est une performance si je les fais dans l’école maintenant ?
quand est ce que mon action devient performative ?
mon père filmait toutes nos représentations
Gaïa et moi en costume à 10 ans sur la musique de Sttellla
je filme à nouveau
Gaïa et moi avec les mêmes costumes 10 ans après
Gaïa et moi à l’école avec un nouveau pantalon argenté que j’ai cousu avec ma mère
un drap blanc, projection des vidéos, une lumière disco, mon tapis avec un piment, mon synthé

j’ai vu les Rolling Stones en concert au stade de France, je veux la même coupe de cheveux que Mike Jagger. J’ai rencontré Roberto, très grand, très fin, une voix grave et un regard de rockstar, il a tourné avec Sttellla, un groupe belge que mes parents écoutent beaucoup, on chantait leurs chansons avec Gaïa. Étape suivante pour devenir une star, avoir un groupe de musique, j’avais un groupe de rock avec Gaïa. Guy et ma mère se sont connus à Nevers, Guy c’est pas une star mais il est peintre. Il n’a pas fait d’école d’art alors il me pose beaucoup de questions.

final sur I love rocknroll, guitare en carton, la foule en délire, applaudissement
ok combien de fois je peux refaire cette performance ?
combien de répétition? une répétition c’est s’entrainer avant mais aussi la rejouer après
est ce que Gaïa peut mieux répéter parce qu’elle est comédienne ?
les autres espaces c’est Rome, le Portugal, les randonnées, Bruxelles
les 2 australiens qui font de la permaculture, Shiralee qui fait son pain, son gingerbeer
ce récit = présent dans une performance où je fais du pain, de la musique et je parle de mon grand-père boulanger avec des poudres à mélanger toutes prêtes

ces espaces viennent de mes voyages, de mes rencontres
je me nourris
est-ce que je continuerais de faire ce que je fais à l’école sans être à l’école ?
pour savoir
l’année prochaine je vais faire une année de césure
une année sabatique
une gap year
en 5ème3 avec Madame Domart dans le note book d’anglais on a fait un exercice de compréhension écrite. Des étudiants british racontaient qu’ils prenaient un an de pause. Pendant cette année ils ne vont pas à l’école, ils peuvent travailler et voyager. Ils ne sont pas inquiets pendant cette année parce qu’ils peuvent retourner dans leur école l’année qui suit.
En 5ème3 j’avais 14,7 de moyenne et 17,5 en arts plastiques, c’est important d’avoir un bon bulletins en école d’art ? brevet mention bien, terminale S mention assez bien, j’enchaîne classe préparatoire école d’art 1ére année 2ème année 3ème année

je ne sais pas écrire sur ce que je n’ai pas encore fait
j’ai d’abord besoin de rencontrer des nouvelles personnes et de nouvelles choses
en janvier 2020 je veux voyager
je suis superstitieuse
si je mets ma brosse à dents dans ce sens j’aurais mon bac
alors si je dis que je veux, (que je vais ?) partir à l’étranger l’année prochaine, travailler pour gagner de l’argent au Portugal, en Irlande ou en Allemagne, puis partir en Grèce avec Léo mon ami, me renseigner sur les boulangeries anarchistes dont Shiralee m’a parlé ? la permaculture ? randonner
